Aligning The Executive Team Around a New Future
After years of disappointing performance, a company has the best year in its history as a result of aligning the executive team around a compelling new future, and using tools for promoting candid communication.
A manufacturing company had years of disappointing performance. Seeking to make a change, the CEO replaced the president with someone from outside the company. His first act was to bring us in to do the Executive Team Alignment Process (ExecuTAP™).
We discovered early on that very smart, seasoned veterans on the executive team had been frustrated in their attempts to contribute their full value to the company because they had no viable means of saying what they had to say and having it be a contribution. At the first executive team session, we helped them openly explore some of the main ideas each team member had, and used some of those ideas to propel them to creating a new and compelling vision of the future. In addition, we helped them to surface the lion’s share of the withheld communications and resentments from the past. As a result, they were able to let go of the past and start anew.
They chose to be an aligned team, meaning that they would own the decisions made by the new president and commit themselves to making those decisions work. They formulated a strategy, and were energized to share what they had created with the rest of the organization and mobilized the organization for its implementation.
The next year, this company had the best year in its history. Since then, they have been steadily climbing toward the top in their industry.
